Ane Brun

Some time ago Swedish radio kept playing "Lift me" with Norwegian singer Ane Brun featuring Madrugada. The song is just fantastic, the duet offers incredible harmony and i fell completely in love with it. Today i ran in to the album called Duets with the very same Ane Brun. This is a tribute to duets and it's just magical listening throughout the album.
So, dampen the lights, increase the volume, lean back and enjoy this wonderful album!

Spotify - what the world needs

I should probably tell you that i don't get paid to run this blog. I'm just amazed by the ingeniousness of this program!

With the debate of piracy and illegal copying of files raging the world Spotify is exactly what the we need! Here you get access to an insane amount of music, i cannot even imagine how many tunes it holds, all browseable in a user friendly interface. On top of that all Artist, Albums and songs get their unique URL that can be shared between users just like i do in other posts on this blog. I can't imagine anyone wanting to go through the effort of downloading songs ever again when they're all always available to you. The only thing I'm waiting for now is to get this streaming into my BlackBerry Bold over 3G so that i get it portable as well!

Spotify comes in 2 major flavors. One that is for free containing commercials every now and then (not annoying though) and one that costs approximately $10/month. That's right $10/month for insane amounts of songs. It has signed with all the major record companies like Sony BMG, Universal, EMI, Warner Music etc. Pretty cool huh?

Ska - goodie!

Today, pondering what tho play in Spotify i came to think of a genre i used to listen to back in -00. It's a genre called Ska. To describe it in short, it's a mix between energetic punk and Jamaica reggae. Something like Bob Marley meets Sid Vicious :)
It's energetic, it's fun and it makes you want to dance. Also, it has a lot of trombones, saxophones and trumpets and i just can't get enough of that!

I found an album called This is Ska. It's not the best Ska I've ever heard but i think it's fairly representative for the genre. Listen to it and enjoy!

A trip down memory lane...

Today i sat by the computer, browsing through my regular read list in google reader when i came to think of an old band that i haven't listened to in ages!
The band is old metal band Panthera. I saw them live at a festival here in Sweden back in -95 and the concert was one of the most fun concerts I've ever visited.
After some browsing in Spotify ended up playing the album Vulgar display of power with hits like Fucking Hostile and This Love.
I must say, This love really is a masterpiece!

Enjoy!

Starting out small

I'm very happy to welcome you to this new blog of mine.
My name is Markus and I'm one of the happy few that received an invitation to Spotify. This blog is meant to share with you my experiences using the new cool Spotify software.

I want to tell you right away that i don't have any invites to share, nor do i have any connections to get invitation - you'll have to fix that yourself ;-)

That said here's a little background.

I received an invitation from my favorite Hotel-chain "Elite". They gave away 1000 invites for free to their "Black members" (highest level) and I took the chance to test it right away.
After downloading the software I'm just amazed on how easy the tool is to use and how much music you can find.
For example i tried finding a record from a small local band in Sweden that was released back in -97 and it was actually there! Now I'm completely stuck! This software is incredibly cool!
Of course you have the commercials, but compared to usual commercial radio this really is nothing, and on top of that you get to choose what to lisen to for yourself.

An example of the amazing and interesting music you can find on Spotify is the "Bluegrass tribute to Metallica", meaning One, Nothing else matters and other hits turned into Banjo-orgasmic bluegrass tunes :)
The link to the album is: http://open.spotify.com/album/4KTLo7X6gxgVLscr8VASGW

Enjoy!
